Subject: FW: Extension of Deadline to March 15: Submission of Abstracts

Dear Deborah,

Thank you for forwarding this announcement to interested graduate
students at UC Davis.  This interdisciplinary doctoral students
conference at the University of Oregon, August 7-12 will bring together
graduate students from the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (36
of the leading research universities in the region including Australia,
NZ, Thailand, China, Japan, Korea, Canada, US, Mexico, and Chile).
Details of the conference arrangements and the format for submission are
available at the conference website http://aprudsc.uoregon.edu/.

I talked to the conference chair, Michelle Satterlee, and she agreed to
consider abstracts submitted from UC Davis if received by April 15.
This should be an excellent and affordable conference for our students.

Dear APRU Colleagues

The 6th APRU Doctoral Student Conference (DSC) will be hosted by the
University of Oregon from August 7-12, 2005.  The theme for the
conference is "Moving Toward a Sustainable Future: Multidisciplinary
Perspectives from the Pacific Rim".

The conference is designed as an interdisciplinary gathering of doctoral
students where ideas and information are actively exchanged.  The
conference offers an excellent platform for doctoral students to present
their research in an international academic setting to fellow students
from APRU universities in the various fields in science, technology,
business, economics, social sciences and the humanities.  Establishing
valuable networks and future academic collaborations are also important
aspects of this conference.

There were a total of 162 participants from 30 universities who
participated at the 2004 Doctoral Students Conference hosted by
University of Sydney.

I am pleased to announce that participants will be provided with 5
nights of lodging at the University of Oregon residence halls free of
charge.  No registration fees will be charged, and in addition, a field
trip will be made to the Oregon coastline.  We hope this will strongly
promote participation from our APRU doctoral students.

APRU member universities are encouraged to select and fund the travel of
at least one or more doctoral students to this conference.  More
information on lodging and other conference information will
progressively be made available at the conference website at
http://aprudsc.uoregon.edu. The conference organizers at University of
Oregon are Ms. Michelle Satterlee and Ms Michelle Diggles.  They may be
contacted for any queries on registration and other conference
arrangements at aprudsc@uoregon.edu.

The call for abstracts with details and procedures for the submission is
attached.  Please note that the deadline for submission of the abstracts
is FEBRUARY 14, 2005. *[APRIL 15, 2005]

Please assist to inform the relevant deans and faculty in your
university about the APRU Doctoral Students Conference (see marketing
flyer attached) and any travel assistance that you might be able to
provide the doctoral students.  We hope that you will give this
conference high profile in your university and encourage some of your
best doctoral students to participate.

Thank you

Sincerely

Dr Lawrence Loh
